Ernest Thompson`s adaptation of his Broadway play THE WEST SIDE WALTZ casts stage and screen legends Shirley MacLaine and Liza Minnelli in a heartwarming tale of loneliness and female friendship. MacLaine stars as Margaret, a lonely widow who uses her sharp wit and tongue to ward off any attempts at human interaction. Her only friend is violin-playing next-door neighbor Cara (Minnelli), who Margaret tolerates only because she accompanies her on piano while playing waltzes. The women`s solitary existence is suddenly broken by the arrival of Robin (Jennifer Grey), a young divorcee and aspiring actress who inspires Margaret and Cara to rediscover the joys of life, love, and friendship. Kathy Bates has a cameo performance.
