The drama follows young Charles from his father`s execution to his subsequent exile in France and his eventual return to the throne, focusing primarily on the decadence of the Restoration court and the king`s many mistresses. Sewell turns in a fine performance as the merry monarch and leads an all-star cast that includes Rupert Graves, Diana Rigg, Helen McCrory, and Ian McDiarmid.
