As the political battle heat up, Emma faces the intrusion of a hypocritical leftist couple who insinuates themselves into her life in order to make a political example of her personal loss. Fassbinder`s satire of liberal Socialism and his critical view of the German political system in the film was so scathing and controversial that it was banned from the Berlin Film Festival.
