Charles Mingus Quintet Live at Montreux 1975
Jazz legend Charles Mingus revolutionized the sound of jazz with his dynamic bass playing, cutting-edge arrangements, and innovative compositions. Starting out in the 1940s as a session player for jazz greats Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Lionel Hampton, Mingus embarked on a solo career in the 1950s and formed his own quintet in the early 1970s. This concert captures the Charles Mingus Quintet at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1975, performing expanded versions of For Harry Carney, Devil Blues, Free Cell Block F, `Tis Nazi USA, and Sue`s Changes, as well as variations on the standards Goodbye Pork Pie Hat and Take the `A` Train.
