Pasquale Festa Campanile (THE LIBERTINE) directed this late 1970s Italian exploitation film, a brutal and outrageous thriller set in the American Southwest. Franco Nero (DJANGO) stars as Walter Mancini, a washed-up alcoholic writer traveling with his wife, Eve (former Bond girl Clery), whom he frequently abuses and humiliates. However, when the couple picks up a stranded motorist named Adam, their trip takes an unexpected detour. Adam, a deranged and murderous fugitive, forces them to drive him to Mexico, passing the time by tying up Walter and torturing him for fun and raping Eve. Pursued by Adam`s former partners, from whom he has stolen two million dollars, the dysfunctional trio ride through the desert as each plots their escape from one another. Shot with gusto, HITCH-HIKE soons spirals into a wild ride with unexpected twists and turns. Barely released in the USA, the film is a true gem in the world of exploitive cinema.
